I think Iran is coming to a head. I dont have a clue as to what will happen or should happen for that matter. The military option might be too dangerous to employ. How can we control the Iran nuke threat. This reminds me of when stalin got nukes and the argument before they acquired them was whether we should go to war or not to prevent that from occurring. Stalin remember was a nutcase too. So we went to deterrence and that yielded the cold war which though not great was better than a hot one. How can we use deterrence with Iran? Israel cant deter iran alone, nor can paper tiger US which may be the pereceptoin there if we dont act. Do nukes end up in Turkey, Egypt and even Saudi arabia and Jordan to protect the gulf region? Will there be a sunni nuke deterrent to protect against the mullahs and if so whose nukes fall into the hands of al quaeda either by design or accident. I dont envy Bush on this one and it didnt have to be this way if the euros understood the threat posed by iran a few years ago.
