Yes, I am old enough that I remember well when there was NO MEDICARE. People got by cause health costs were not that bad and health insurance was still reasonable. Today, I VERY MUCH DOUBT even middle class retirees could survive without Medicare or something like it. I know in my case, my health insurance premiums would be around $2,000 a MONTH and that figure is over a year old. In case you are wondering I havent been in a hospital for 23 years when I had a kidney stone and that was my ONLY hospital visit in my life except the day I was born. jdn
