Ok, that explains it. Being Third Coast, we had our choice and went with BSD 4.1 for the Vax. The performance for the Vax was supposed to be better under BSD.

As far as why Solaris was more SysV, it wasn't at first. But a few years back, they switched to SysV to be compatible with OSF.
