This is an opinion piece. Not a bad one. I agree with much of what he says. Except for the part about spying on American citizens. If you're going to listen to the conversations of an american citizen you need a warrant.

You don't trust the government to hand out food stamps, but you're willing to let them decide, without judicial review, who the enemy is. Today it's clear that Al Qaeda is an enemy worth watching, but what about the next time? There needs to be a consistent trail that can be investigated when abuses do occur. We need to be able to hold our representatives accountable. This is not about whether GW and his admin are abusing their powers, it's about government in general and what is proper conduct.
