On a different note, does anyone know what determines when a stock will get options listed for it? Is it mainly dependent on the average daily volume or other factors?

The option exchanges regularly review a list of candidates submitted by companies or individuals. The primary determinant is liquidity, and volume is important to this determination, but so is price, Stocks below $5 need not apply. A stock also needs visibility, should be domiciled in the country of listing, and has to meet certain minimal financial requirements.
