I wouldn't totally agree w/ this analogy. With Google, you're not inputing vast amounts of your own data into someone else's system, assuming they'll keep the data isolated from all other clients. Nor are you building customized reports, to retrieve your own data back.

I was assuming that each client would try to configure SalesForce to work a little differently, the way you would configure say PeopleSoft to work at your site. But, maybe they don't allow that level of flexibility. This would not be suitable for some customers, but would make it easier for SalesForce to manage. Clearly I'll need to research that aspect more.
