Why? Look at the limited cases of Shia controlled prison torture revealed last month. There are already significant Shia killings of Sunnis going on with paramilitary units. The Shia will be the dominant component of the new military & police, so the problem is likely to increase substantially IMO. Creating a civil war is not our goal there. We most certainly can if we could get them nominated. The wing nuts in general and SI wingnuts in particular control the primary process. Think McCain vs Warner for two mods. Or if one party did the right thing Think McCain vs Dean or Warner vs Delay. Moderates win in all three scenarios. Even Reagan didn't get 50% of the Dem vote, so I don't think its likely. I'd be even more shocked if a Dem ever got 50% of the Rep vote. I agree that the primary process is IMO, not good for the reason you note.
