I class it with the John-Birch paranoia of the right in the 1960s.

I remember it well. I lived in the center of John Birchism, Orange County, Calif. In the late 60s, Andrew Galambos started giving courses there that sounded like far right conservatism, and a lot of them took them. The courses deprogrammed them into libertarianism, and they dropped out of the Birch Society. Galambos become known as the "black hole" of the conservative movement in Southern California.
