this board has never lost its relevance. I consider it to have some of the best minds on SI.

Other than the details I put in my response to Peter, I probably can't elaborate too much. But a bunch of the stuff that I am working on includes extended distances between nodes and a combination of fixed nodes and nodes in motion at speeds that are normally not associated with 802.11, all the while maintaining throughput levels.

The application where the node is at 2km altitude, in motion and with a 50mi radius coverage area is one that I am a bit skeptical about, but hell, we'll try anything that our customers want to try.

In the application that I mentioned where we have the 10mi link, it is actually the 5th hop from the root. This section of the network looks like this

Node|-5mi-|node|-3mi-|rootnode|-4mi-|node|-3mi-|node|-3mi-|node|-10mi-|node

The backhaul is using 11a and we are getting 18Mbps of bidirectional TCP throughput all the way out to the end nodes. On the b radios, with 4W amps we are getting ubiquitous coverage up to about 7miles from the antennas (combination of sector and high gain omnis).

In addition, there are 4 vehicles that have nodes mounted using 11b.

This is an test network for a much larger application. But with the 7 nodes mentioned, we are covering over 200sq/mi. The mobile nodes can also extend the coverage significantly with a breadcrumb approach.
