Not only are none of the diebold machines secure but none of those made by any other manufacturers are either. As if that's not enough the optical scanners which read pencil marks on ballot can also be manipulated.

For the life of me I can't understand why we don't hear more on this subject, at least from democrats in DC. Maybe if they spoke on the subject more often we would see something in the news about it. I doubt if more than 10% of Americans know how easy it is at present for an election to be rigged. Even less know that the companies which make the machines are connected to the republicans in some way.

The GAO released a report on Oct. 21, 2005 detailing flaws in voting system security, access, and hardware controls, weak security management practices by vendors, and identified multiple examples of failures in real elections. According to the GAO report, although national initiatives to improve security and reliability of electronic voting systems are underway, "it is unclear when these initiatives will be available to assist state and local election authorities."
