I think the 2nd core *could* be engaged with the right application, or combination of applications, (though this may be rare in actual usage) but in that case, battery life will be significantly worse than Dothan, in exchange for the sizable increase in performance.

That certainly was a rumor I read almost a year ago. I still haven't found real evidence whether or not this is actually the case.
