actually I was also taken a bit aback by your comment as you have used gm unions problems as a terminal situation for gm albeit you never gave a time frame. But if you like the stock why not the bonds. they are yielding in the 15% range, trading around 60 or so depending on the issue. they dont even have to have much of a turnaround, just the beleif they wont go bk. bonds go to a premium with that news. 60% upside, 15% while you wait and some (though small pennies on the dollar) better standing in BK.
