Extending government power permanently for some innocuous unending battle is a bad idea.

"Yes I'm willing to live with the consequences of that position."

Thankfully most do not agree with this. Especially our President. Bet you would feel differnetly if your city (and family) was hit.

"Don't you see how this could be misused?"

Everything can be misused. Unlike the dem position, I firmly come down on the side of actually having something misused before I call for heads. If the potential for abuse is all it takes then EVERYBODY is guilty, and we could not even have a President.

"You keep accusing my of having a side and an agenda of wanting to hurt the president."

You may not. Many that are opposed to the President do.

"You are willing to scramble down a slippery slope and give away your rights for a bit of percieved security."

No, I am not. And I think the NSA example weighs more on actual security (not percieved), and you are more concerned abouut "percieved" infringement of civil rights. You even admit that there has been no evidence of abuse, only the possibility. I think I have correctly pointed out that almost EVERYTHING has the POTENTIAL for abuse. That is way to weak of a standard when we are at war.

"You are willing to blindly trust the govt."

No, I am not. Actually have a pretty healthy dose of skepticism.

"I find this attitude (blindly trust the govt) astounding"

I do too. But it is not my attitude. My support for the President to track terrorists who want to kill us with no evidence he has hurt any innocents in the process stands on its own merits. I have said when real abuse (as opposed to potential abuse) is exposed I will be on your side. But I will take the President at his word in absence of any evidence while we fight these terrorists.

It is LIFE, liberty, pursuit of happiness. In that order. Can't even have the second two (which I appreciate as much as ANYBODY) without the 1st. No accident the declaration put them in that order.

That said, I appreciate the exchange. I like debate.
