"Real wars are declared against specific countries"

I agree that this is a strange war, but it is real. Drugs and poverty did not declare war on us, nor do they pose a danger that is out of the control of those effected (for the most part). Al Quida did declare war on us and is actively trying to kill our citizens and other innocents throughout the world. I see your analogy, but feel this is MUCH CLOSER to a real war, with real enemies. We can't help that they act without authority of a specific country. But we can still take the battle to them, which we are doing. And nobody will sign a treatie most likely, but at some point these fanatics will figure out that being alive and belly aching is better than getting killed by a superior foe. It might take a few years, it might take ten. But if we keep it up the problem can be corralled. If we quit, they will take out a city or do something that will shock the world. Can't bargain our way out of it.
