It's more a case of ignorance than stupidity.

I did read an article once though about the ability to hold two conflicting thoughts. (I don't have a link). The gyst of the article was that it was a learned process using the parts of the brain that are active when a bilingual person translates between languages.

This could go a long ways toward explaining why those folks in Kansas talk one way and vote another.

Actually, I would say roughly half the population isn't informed enough to be allowed to vote. You all are lucky you grew up in a democracy that doesn't discriminate. ;`)
