"there is a plenty of room for AMD to sell products into the mobile market"

Joe, I think there is a problem. If you remember some past, there were "difficulties" in ramping up Athlon K7 platforms, there were platform "instabilities", "fragile" as Dell said, dual-K7 chipset 760MP never saw a daylight, lots of mainboards were recalled and reworked, all other AMD chipsets supporting S2K bus were eventually phased out, etc. As you might guess, all this stuff was supervised by AMD Chief Platform Architect. I am of firm opinion that this hickup cost AMD hundreds of millions. It turns out that the guy was reassinged to oversee low-power mobile platforms about 1.5 years ago and exiled into Japan:

AMD Adds Mobile R&D Lab
By Michael Singer

"The company has assigned Steve Polzin, AMD Fellow and Chief Platform Architect, to initially manage the facility with as many as 20 engineers joining him over the next 12 to 18 months. Research will run the gamut of low-power issues such as electrical, thermal and silicon designs."

Draw your own conclusion. Sorry that I didn't discover this fact earlier.
