Suddenly they wake up and remember their history.

Whichever way one looks at it, the Iraq war has been a disaster. And what's more, I'm sure in the end the US will rue the day they removed Saddam. He may have been a bad guy but he was very pro-America and he kept Iraq together. Now it's just a Pandora's Box of trouble.

> With regard to gold with so many bubbles raging in the world why not a gold bubble too?

Yes, it could happen -- it's certainly a "little" bubble now. Furthermore, at the moment gold is the only game in town (with commodities). US industrial and commercial shares are very uninteresting and property has had its run.

> Gold is the only asset still well below its prior peak levels.

Quite true. And also in its relative performance compared to other commodities it's been a laggard.

This graph shows the ratio of gold to the CRB index of commodities.

> The fact that gold now is rising against all currencies is very bullish and probably signals much higher prices ahead.

Theoretically that is true but I'm not sure what is driving the gold price.

> But volatility will as always remain very high.

As long as gold players realize that and are prepared to act accordingly. It's that safe haven stuff that "gets" to me.

On the same subject, I posted this a little earlier, as you may have seen:
