An honest and honorable person like you father needs no excuse to do what is right. When people don't like it, they sometimes complain. You have to admit that in the fifties discrimination was accepted by a large part of the population. Your father was probably considered a forward thinker by those who were not overly prejudiced.

My father had standing orders that any AA applicant be hired regardless of qualifications. He still had a very white work force until the nineties when asians started accepting jobs. There is no question he was willing to be discriminatory, but he had few takers.

I always liked the photo. The trick of making it repeat made looking at your profile painfully slow.
