.....but I still can't figure out how to get the SPX symbol to come up on my Ameritrade.


If you are having trouble buying the SPX Calls and Puts
you could trade it using SPY which is the tracking stock
of the SPX. (Sort of like QQQQ for the NDX.)

I think the SPX options would give you a smaller spread
between bid and ask (percentage wise) since they are much
higher in price per contract.

Anyhow you can try finding the options symbols for the SPX
here if you want and then try to input the symbols at
Ameritrade.

Dealer, I don't use Ameritrade so I'm not for sure what symbol they use, but you might try SPX.X or $SPX and see if that works.
