If Ingersoll could inspire a skeptic like Mark Twain to gush like this, one can only imagine how very effective Ingersoll must have been. High praise, from the heights:

To his wife, 1879: "I've just come to my room, Livy darling, I guess this was the memorable night of my life. By George, I never was so stirred since I was born. I heard [a speech] by that splendid old soul, Col. Bob Ingersoll -- oh, it was just the supremest combination of English words that was ever put together since the world began." -Mark Twain

Secular hatred of Christianity in the West is PC. Hatred of the other RELIGIONs is not PC. That is the reason for the left's attitude.

You can casually chalk it up to your favorite scape-goat meme if you like. I, of course <g>, think there's a bit more to it.

First of all, how could anyone hate Buddhism? It's just so conspicuously inoffensive. OTOH, lots of people hate Wicca. Lots more than hate Christianity, I'd guess. I have some experience with people's reaction to Wicca. Some religions have aspects that are offensive and some don't. Christianity is neither the least nor the most offensive.

Secondly, Christianity is our family religion. It's ours. Of course we get more engagement and more feuding about our religion than we do about some religion practiced only on the mountainous side of some island somewhere. We always have mixed feelings about our family and stronger feelings about our family. So of course Christianity is going to arouse more reaction than any other religion.
