how to successfully resist the spread of Islam, prevent the free democracies of Europe from being taken over by Islamic majorities, prevent Islamic fundamentalist theocracies from taking over more countries in Africa and Asia. Mark Steyn's recent column on European demographics shows that Islam will triumph in Europe in the next 50 years. No way out of it if they don't restrict immigration, which they won't. When the Muslims make Europe "Islam only," I wonder if they will take over St Peters. :>)

We shouldn't be over-impressed by "the core of Islam." Islam is whatever its current leaders want to make of it. Just like Christianity it can be peaceful and reverent, or brutal and violent. It pretty much depends on who's got control of the reins. I'm guessing there are at least as many versions of True Islam as there are of True Christianity. Just as our own institutions of freedom and democracy have successfully moderated the worst tendencies of our Judeo-Christian inheritance, we can expect freedom and democracy to counter and ameliorate the worst expressions of Islam.
