What Limbaugh did was give voice to what a lot of us were silently thinking, but didn't dare say. We didn't even know anybody else was thinking it, because there was nobody to talk to about it. Up till Limbaugh the assumption was that everybody was a liberal democrat, even the Republicans. The death grip of the MSM was so complete that there was no opposing speech. None except Bill Buckley and he was marginalized as an oddball. After all, he had that odd accent. Limbaugh was the first break that monolithic wall of silence and mind control, and I for one will be eternally grateful. It doesn't matter what he said; the point is he said it.
