Markets in different parts of the world may not all be dancing to the same tune. Recall how NIKK was in a great Bear market for many years, while everyone else was having a huge party.

SPX was cut just about in half back in 2000 - 02, and gave back about 62% of the entire advance since 1990. That's pretty big. And for the past 2 years, new highs kept occurring on declining momentum - and failing. (This current one looks fine for now, with Jan 3 low being an important support).

It's not hard to make a case for 2007 retesting - or at least threatening to retest - the '02 lows.
