Bush's illegal spying may include a massive secret campaign to spy on political opponents of all kinds. This is not just some paranoid fantasy. For one thing, Nixon sure did it, and Bush seems to be Nixonesque (but worse). Secondly, there were reports in the news two weeks ago that the FBI and DOD (under Bush-Cheney) have been spying on all kinds of peace groups, vegetarians, environmentalists and reporters. So if they do that (which is illegal without a warrant) what would stop them from spying on their real enemies, the democrats and even GOP moderates? If Bush wanted to spy on Al Qaida contacts, the FISA court would bend over backwards to give him full permission and make it all legal. But Bush intentionally avoided FISA. Why? What was Bush hiding? I think we can all guess.
