I may or may not make an effort to seek out this "edgy" program, but TWT.

If you want edgy, this isn't it, as I pointed out twice earlier. If you want edgy, try Rescue Me or Nip/Tuck. This show is very middling, neither tame nor edgy.

I just commented today that I'm not sure why some groups of people (like the producers of The Book of Daniel) feel the need to put down any groups of people.

I think you're making leap there. I doubt very much that the producers felt any need to put down any people. There have been a number of interviews with the writers and producers and they clearly don't think they're putting anyone down. I sure don't think they were putting anyone down. I'm apparently the only person here who saw the show so it's hard to discuss what happened.

Just because people feel put down doesn't mean they've been put down. There's often a gap between the speaker's intention and the subject's reaction. Some times you put people down and they don't realize it. Other times they feel put down when they haven't been.

Is it because they feel so little about themselves, they want to try to drag others down to their level?

That's one of the things that cause people to put other people down. But I don't think it's what happened here. I've already explained what I think happened here. A combination of unsatisfied expectations and the great outrage machine.
