And how is that different than what we have in this country???? Unless you are saying that we need to change our constitution to one term. Hmm.. so you think that it's alright for a president who's already been elected for one term of 5 years to have the constitution he was elected under replaced by one that permits him to have two more terms of 6 years each? Because as I understand it, his most recent election is NOW considered to be his "first" election since it was carried out under a new constitution. Which means the guy will be able to serve for 12 years, plus the time he served under the previous constitution previous to his 2000 election under the current one. But I'm sure you'd be satisfied to let him remain in power for 40 years, just like his buddy Castro has in Cuba.. Had Chavez been a man of integrity and obedience to the political system and constitution under which he was elected, he would have stated that he would fulfill his original 5 year term and stand down from power until the next election cycle 6 years from then. But let's look at that BBC's view of Hugo's rein of power, starting with their views back in 2002: Whenever the media reported discontent with his rule, he accused it of being in the pay of reactionaries. Sound familiar?? I see you and Geode play this hand all the time. He courted controversy in foreign policy, too, making high-profile visits to Cuba and Iraq, while allegedly flirting with leftist rebels in Colombia and making a huge territorial claim on Guyana. Dare we call him "Imperialistic"? Here's some interesting quotes from good 'ol Hugo.. your savior of democracy: “Well we can try to measure democracy, just as you measure temperature with a thermometer, or pressure with a barometer.” Hugo Chavez quotes I found this rather interesting.. Does that mean that "inalienable rights" is something that depends upon the democratic "temperature"?? Hmmm..... So how about Hugo taking advice from the Iranian fundamentalist Ayatollahs in Iran?: “I am on the offensive, ... because attack is the best form of defense. We are waging an offensive battle. Yesterday, in Tehran, the spiritual guide [Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei told me a true statement: power, power.” Hugo Chavez quotes But hey.. Don't ask me..
