It WAS a different era! Teams HATED other teams. Today, with free agency and modern contracts, "Kill the opposition" doesn't exist. First off, nobody wants to take away someone's livelihood because they wouldn't want it done to them. Second, they may be playing for that team in a year or 2. Hit hard - play clean is the order of the day. Just ask Marcus Vick. He might STILL make it to the pro's, but very few teams will put up with his crap. I any event, his college days are done.
