People generally don't want to see their privacy violated willy-nilly on the off chance that they might be involved in a crime.

From this I infer that you are opposed to general data mining given that a warrant for that makes no sense. Am I incorrect in that inference?

The right to privacy is a guard against capricious laws.
If nobody can tell a law was broken then it wasn't a very important law to begin with.
