Nixon didn't violate the law to "spy" on political enemies. He was going to win the election easily anyway. Some over zealous players performed the breakin at the hotel and Nixon's problem was that he became aware of it and authorized a payoff to make it "go away". Nixon's problem was created after the fact. "why did Nixon break the law? To spy on his political enemies. Our President did it to protect the life of people like you who will attack him for doing so. No non-hater even insinuates any ohter motive, nor is there a scrap of evidence to show one.
