One thing that i have noted in reading the news diligently on iran over the past couple of years is that the pro-western students are highly nationalistick and would react negatively to US taking out their nukes. In that sense they remind of the chinese who love economic freedom, wish for political freedom but still can be rallied by the regime for jingoistic causes. So we need to be careful. They may hate the ayotollahs but the ayotollahs after all are iranian. This is not the case of poland or hungary where the leaders were deemed to be soviet puppets. Having said the above i think it is very ironic that the clerics may prove to be a moderating influence on the new great white leader over there.
