When I quit I was told to fast for three days except to drink fruit juice for nourishment. The next two days minimal solid food intake. By the end of the fifth day, all nicotine should have been removed from your system and then since there is no more physical demand, then it becomes a mental battle between you and the ciggie. You only have to not smoke the next one, not think about never smoking again, just think about not smoking the NEXT one that you get an urge for. Avoid places where other's are smoking for a while until you are no longer tempted. If you are strong enough and serious enough, that phase won't take very long. At the time I quit CA had just passed a no smoking in supermarkets law. I became an annoying vigilante because I could smell a burning ciggie 5 or 6 aisles away and promptly reported it to the store mgr. By God, if I couldn't smoke, neither would anyone else. That too passed. Don't test yourself for at least 6 weeks. I did test myself and lit one up after a few weeks, took 2 deep drags and nearly fainted. That's when I knew I had kicked the habit - That was 25 years ago next month. Stay with it and don't start again or you'll have dismal feelings about your weak, spineless self who let a burning plant win. Good Luck.
