The OC is just a collection of exurbs of LA. It has no identity of it's own. It's home to some of the most sterile, lifeless "planned communities" I've ever seen. But it IS very clean, in a "Stepford" kind of way. My father was an ad executive and was offered a job promoting Irvine when it was nothing. He'd have had to move there, and they sent him a bound glossy prospectus, "New Worlds of Irvine" that I remeber checking out as a child. I'm really glad he didn't make that move! The OC is better now but there is no urban core so it doesn't have a real urban/urbane feel to it. However, Tustin has an interesting historic district; Newport is cool....it sits right on the water. I spent a couple of XMAS's there.....it was like something out of a more contemporary Currier & Ives painting. And Laguna Beach is good........in fact, most of the beach communities are pretty decent. But I know what you mean..........I prefer the city. ted
