(more intelligent people produced more offspring that survived). That's correct. Although MQ will argue that an intelligent woman, chose the right guy, i.e., the more clever one, and were part of the reason for the more intelligent offspring.

Gib, I don't think it in the sense that I got that weird and wrong idea out of my own head. <Maurice is saying - he thinks the average intelligence is increasing. I'm arguing against him. > It's a fact: pespmc1.vub.ac.be

< The results of intelligence tests in different countries show that over the past century average IQ has been increasing at a rate of about 3 points per decade>

We have the fact. It's just a question of why.

Of course there are many variables, such as lead and mercury reduction, other toxin reduction and nutrient improvement. We don't hear about the various deficiency diseases which were very common in the first part of the 20th century and subclinical deficiencies were no doubt common afterwards and still are.

Then there's the elephant in the living room = the bottom of the heap don't get to reproduce as much as the norm. That's not the bottom 0.1% or 1% but more like 10% or 20% [I am now making this up and need data]. Don't forget the prison population doesn't have a lot of children. And the bottom of the heap is more often dead or removed from the breeding stakes by car crashes and other misadventures and diseases.

Also, from what I see of people I know, the smart ones have plenty of children and are outbreeding the average, let alone the bottom of the heap. I don't believe the urban myth that the "rich get richer and the poor get children", even though it's set to music.

I shall cut to the chase and ask Google for data on IQ vs birth rates. You don't have to look up the Flynn Effect now, which you obviously didn't do previously - just click above. It really isn't just my idea.
