"some of what seems to be gone
out of many people's lives is the
sensory enjoyment of the world..."

My husband and I were just talking about this last night. We were discussing the depression and anxiety of some of the people we see, who really, in terms of the rest of the world, live like princes. Depression and anxiety seem to be "diseases" of affluence, and they also keep the affluent from really enjoying what they have. The people who live with everything, seem consumed with having more, and fail to notice the beauty all around them- and (let's be honest) the almost limitless pleasures available to us, while the rest of the world (85%? Maybe higher)- is working so hard to support the consumers of the West, they don't have time to have much sensory enjoyment at all.

It's a funny old world. I'm trying to do my part (re: enjoying the sensory pleasures of the world).
