War on terror: “Colossal failure”

The war is not really about bringing safety to the American nation

Has the WAR ON TERRORISM truly been effective in combating TERRORISM?

It is clearer now more than ever that the so-called "WAR ON TERROR" has not, in fact, made the world safer.

At the time the U.S. PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH declared WAR ON AFGHANISTAN he promised that he’d take the battle to terrorists all over the world.

“Our nation will continue to be steadfast and patient and persistent in the pursuit of two great objectives,” Bush said in his 2002 State of the Union address.

“First, we will shut down terrorist camps, disrupt terrorist plans, and bring terrorists to justice ... our military has put the terror training camps of Afghanistan out of business, yet camps still exist in at least a dozen countries.”

The PRESIDENT BUSH has lost the support of most of the Americans and the world over this war, generally because of the barbaric policy pursued in this war.

As the IRAQ WAR drags on, the BUSH ADMINISTRATION's attitude toward civil liberties has become a concern, with the American President repeatedly suggesting that the ruthlessness of the “enemy” justifies whatever steps it takes. The American nations is now more concerned about the country’s security and civil liberties even more than the 9/11 attacks or the launch of their President’s WAR ON TERROR.

Also although the White House keeps trying to abuse this term “war on terror” to include everything from the war in IRAQ to the protection of oil pipelines in Colombia, most of the Americans view this bogus war as the narrow term it represents, controlling the Middle East region and laying hands on its oil reserves.

THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT's persistent claim that his administration was after “terrorists” everywhere was seriously undermined from the very beginning by the illegal and brutal wars it waged ever since the bloody attack that killed thousands in the U.S. BUSH who defends his fake war to root out TERRORISM by saying that he’s on a mission to bring democracy and protection of human rights has himself violated the basic human rights and continues to.

AFGHANISTAN, attacked few days after the of Black Tuesday that witnessed the destruction of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon building in the U.S. was reduced to even more rubble. Iraqis are scared to leave their homes fearing more attacks and bombings that already claimed the lives of thousands of innocent civilians, including women and children.

The worldwide sympathy for Americans after September 11 is now replaced by anger at Washington's Imperial arrogance. The U.S. moved from being a victim of terror to "an aggressor that starts wars on the basis of lies and disinformation."- Roberts, The Washington Times.

With the latest revelation that Bush has ordered the National Security Agency to conduct warrantless wiretaps on American citizens, it appears that the American President, DICK CHENEY and their advisors—most of whom are hand-picked—want to roll back the clock and revisit the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, characterized by the willingness to point fingers at Americans through supposition, accusation, allegation and finger pointing that we saw during the McCarthy Era.

So the war is not really about bringing safety to the Americans.

Jeff Milchen of Reclaim Democracy, a project devoted to restoring constitutional rights, suggests that "allowing officials to spy on citizens based on their politics or to search property without judicially scrutinized evidence typically wastes resources. Martin Luther King Jr. was the target of countless federal agents' investigations that produced mountains of files but no evidence of dangerous activity."

But instead of waging a war against terrorists, Washington got bogged down in Iraq. Never mind that there is no proof that toppled Iraqi leader SADDAM HUSSEIN had any link to Al Qaeda network, BUSH says is behind the 9/11 attacks. Saddam, after all, Bush reminded us in a 2002 speech, was “the guy who tried to kill” his dad.

Not being able to use that as justification for the illegal war on IRAQ, BUSH had to use the lie that “fighting in Iraq is the heart of the war on terrorism.
