Nice one.

I just love to express interest in whatever they are selling, and then develop a sudden need to be temporarily unable to talk on the phone, but won't the hold on for a moment.

The longer the sucker is on the phone, the higher the payroll cost. Increased cost decreased demand for their services. We all get fewer calls.

So now, everybody start keeping those telemarketers on the phone longer.

You've changed the subject. Taking lessons from AS? :-)

And the telemarketer problem id HARDLY limited to foreign countries.
