I remember as a kid when visiting an uncle & aunt in Milwaukee, WI; the iceman and the junkman and the milkman all delivered in horse drawn wagons. The horses always wore a straw hat with holes cut for their ears. It just seems like it was 10 or 20 years before the mid 1940's it really was.

Sometimes memories suck. They usually drive home how old you really are.

We had a guy come by in a truck. Our ice box was out on the back porch. He'd have this massive block and he'd crack it down to size for your ice box. Then, he moved to the next house. Mind you, all the houses were like right next to each other. Connect some were. The bigger pieces, he give to the boy that followed him around with a leather pouch, the smaller ones, he'd toss to the always present kids. It was one of the very best memories I have of what I thought was a much simpler time.
