And they did! Since then the workplace was flooded with blacks and women and a whole lot of income tax was collected. The women were the govt's BIG ace in the hole! Women's lib was instrumental in breaking the backs of the unions, checking inflation (because the were paid less than a man), and slowing down the population explosion. The additional family income allowed the oil companies, auto manufacturers, etc. to jack up prices and generate (surprise!) more tax revenue. THEN the govt could afford to tell us how bad tobacco was for us.
