I guess after 25 years of crying “Wolf!” and predicting dire results from conservative policies which never actually transpire, it shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the left’s reputation is so shot it is now an example of what not to be. Case in point: There is a widespread, tacit assumption that no matter how apathetic and inattentive Americans become, there is still some line which they will not allow the Government to cross when it comes to exceeding or abusing the limits of government power. That assumption has taken a huge beating over the last four years, and is now in serious doubt. Ahhh, a glimmer of comprehension! But notice how deluding ones self with inaccuracies and falsehoods allow the liberal mind to still hold back reality Americans have sat by more or less passively by while this Administration detained American citizens and threw them into a military prison without charges being brought, without a trial, and without even allowing them access to a lawyer. Emphasis mine. This would be people like Johnie Walker Lindh, Jose Padilla and Moussoui. Enemy combatants who decided to fight against America. Many are basically indifferent to revelations that the Bush Administration is eavesdropping on American citizens in secret and with no oversight of any kind. These poor citizens this liberal speaks of are communicating with terrorists targets overseas. Since the terrorist target is a legal target of surveillance, so are the contacts in the US communicating with the target. This happens in the US all the time, where the target has a warrant, but all those who communicate with them are the victims of ‘warrantless surveillance’. Legal warrantless surveillance. The oversight statement demonstrates a serious lack of basic knowledge. Oversight on this is provided by the NSA Inspector General, the NSA managers, The Department of Justice and the Comgress. It is reviewed every 45 days by the administration, and all evidence used to provide probable cause for a FISA warrant is reviewed by the Chief FISA Judge. This poor lad needs to believe in his fantasy awefully badly if he is to miss all this oversight. It covers all three branches! And worst of all, a sizable portion of the population is acquiescing to the fact that we have a President who was just discovered breaking the law, and rather than expressing shame or remorse once he was caught, has vowed to continue doing it based on the theory that he has the right to violate the law and that it’s for our own good. Translation: I am so gullible I bought into the ‘breaking the law’ meme and I don’t understand why everyone is not as gullible as me??? I think this illustrates why the liberals are going to be shunned in this country for decades to come. It is bad enough to be wrong on so many issues so many times over so long a period of time. But to be insufferably arrogant while wallowing in their ignorance is too much. Once - OK. Twice - we all need to learn the hard way. A quarter of a century!?Message 22059552 via lindybill
