"...this semester in school

Sure, because it is a circumstance that bares on current conditions. If the kid got an A on his report card, it might recommend him as qualified for a program of higher competency. If he gets promoted under false circumstances he might fail miserably when challenged at a higher level. What occurs this semester in school is very relevant to the decisions we must make now and going forward.

If the 70 year old superintendent of schools calls for raising academic standards, I would say 'bravo'... even if some old lady murmered that she saw him looking on her paper during a third grade quiz.

Whether he did or didn't cheat on his third grade quiz is irrelavant to his position of wanting better for our children.
