The US is involved in this stupidity too. Many industries, particularly agricultural, which use relatively unskilled labor, want the border left open so their supply of cheap illegal laborers will not be interrupted. Another advantage od "illegal" to then is their workers dare not go to the law about labor law violations because they themselves are here illegally. The employers can almost literally get away with murder and treat them in a manner they would dare not treat American citizens.

It isn't just they want to get here; many American companies want to get them here and put pressure on the US gov't to keep border control ineffective.

One side effect of this, of course, is it makes it easy for terrorists to get in.
