I've got to think that even the staunchest of MSOs today are rethinking the use of coax, slowly favoring fiber, instead, which could be used, as Verizon has amply demonstrated by now, to support legacy cabletv technologies where they are not going full blown IPTV. It's only a matter of time, I believe. Cable ops are already resorting to fiber in parts of Europe and Asia, fwiw, and in so doing they are bypassing the nuisances associated with 50/60Hz ingress, leaky RF taps, semi-annual frequency sweeps and tuning, etc. On the other hand, I trust there will be a place for coax in existing systems for many years to come.
