Do you then believe the purchase of 30 year treasuries is about to be the worst purchase possible for decades?

IMO it doesn't make sense to look at a single asset and say "yay" or "nay". For someone eg. trading rate volatility, it may make perfect sense to gobble up 30yr issues to clip the wings on their shorter-duration trades.

If you're asking would the 30yr be my choice if I could only hold one asset long for the next 5 years - nah. :)
