Another reason that Iran is different from Iraq is that the large middle class in the cities does not support the mullahs or President Ahmadinejad. In many ways Ahmadinejad is the equivalent of the American religious loonies like Pat Robertson, with the difference that there are still enough rural uneducated folks in Iran who take their lead from the mullahs that this type of fanatic ideologue can get elected there. (But note that he carefully toned down his rhetoric during the election itself, so many just held their noses and voted for him in the hopes he would continue to keep his mouth shut. No such luck...) If Robertson or someone like him ever gets a position of power in the US, you'll know it's all over... LC
