>As for jamaica, well, I have no hope for jamaica. I would stop allowing immigration from jamaica, but that seems impossible.

If we were really smart, we would run the immigration system like actuaries set life insurance policies. Insurance companies are not charities. They look at the numbers and say -- hmm, we don't want to sell to two pack a day smokers, people with heart conditions, extremely old people, because look at the statistics -- we know what will happen if we do. Unfortunately as a country it seems like we often do operate like a charity. We don't look at the crime and employment statistics and say -- hmm, if we allow in a bunch of people from countries X, Y and Z we know what will happen. Politicians instead look at immigrant communities and think, "How can we buy their votes?".

It is funny, when they de-criminalized alcohol, people still made their own

I'm not real knowledgeable on this but I would imagine that it is a lot easier to grow pot than to distill liquor.
Having the govt sell pot isn't the answer for obvious reasons: 1) when "regulated" and sold in govt outlets the costs will be high as they will have to cover the wages, infrastructure regulation costs etc Don't think the savings in the court system will cover it because most charges never make it to court now. Read "NO SAVINGS HERE"
2) How does the gov't control the strength????? and can you guarantee me that kids won't turn their noses at a weaker state sanctioned drug and still look for a supply of a stronger thrill
3) no matter how the stuff would be priced people that steal hydro will be able to produce stronger product and sell it cheaper.

Methinks that the argument that gov't outlets for this stuff are going to magically cure all existing evils is simply fluff from those wanting to legalize for very personal reasons
