I suspect, for now, that they will continue to officially "no comment" or even say they are against the pirates. Unofficially, and including attitude and comment on the Stern show, is that it is more free advertising, more an appendage to the free PR that Stern has been able to generate for the past year.

In other words, they thought it was pretty cool that it was happening. It's unlikely to happen outside of congested areas given the weak antennas. The thinking on the show was that people would get a "piece" of the show and then perhaps come on board for a subscription. It's kind of like the people who used to go dizzy trying to watch the porn on cable when it used to come in scrambled. Most of those probably took pay packages as they became part of premium offering on cable.

>>>There's a hell of a battle shaping up

This is more Stern press and I see it as a positive for Sirius. Stern spends a significant amount of time describing other Sirius content and channels. Stern has even sent Gary to the other Sirius studios to interact with the respective DJ's and have on the air conversations about the different channels. To me, this is brilliant marketing along the lines of free online trials, Air Blue, DISH Network and Direct TV airing free XM and Sirius.

Can't see why Stern/Siri would want to shut them down.

This is free advertisement.

The down home radio stations have existed for a very long time. My oldest brother and a friend were genius in putting together transmitters in their teanage years.

In the local area they began to broadcast wonderful dance and classical music that was counter to the country music with banjos and guitars. Of course, the broadcasts interfered with the local station signals. And, actually superseded the distance for the local station.

All it took was a friendly call from the radio station owner to my mother to ask that "the boys" cease. Message of course relayed however they persisted sporadically.
