No rule, merely guidelines. A lot depends on the condition of the market.

When the market is showing a strong day, I may be a little more flexible with my stops. When market conditions are bearish, like today, I may tighten those stops up.

It's something that comes with experience.

There are some general guidelines I adhere to. On a low priced stock, I may move my stop up after price moves up 25 cents. On a medium priced stock I may move my stop up after price moves up 50 cents. On a high priced stock I may move my stop up after price moves up $1.00.

Those are the guidelines. You really have to look at the charts and take into consideration the condition of the market in moving your stops up. Again, that will come with experience.
