AK, AMD is going through higher growth period so it is unfair to compare intel's options to profit ratio to AMD's. Options is part of the comp package that allowed AMD to attract talent to compete with Intel.

Assuming AMD granted the same "dollar value" of options in 2005 as they did in 2004, they'll still end up short, since AMD's profits in 2005 aren't 220% of their profits in 2004.

Perhaps AMD's profits in 2006 will finally be large enough to cover their options expense, but by then it will be moot, since AMD will likely hand out far fewer options than before thanks to mandatory expensing.

Look, AK, I briefly read the quarterly report.

True, I am biased, but Intel missed its own estimate of revs by about 2 or 3%. You try estimating 10 billion +/- in sales and get back to my people on how easy this is.

Further, although units were up RECORD AMOUNTS, asps on the desktop were lower.

IF this is because there is a slowdown in General business, look out below for AMD.

IF this is because AMD undercut Intel's prices, then look out below, AMD because my sense of things is that AMD's cost per unit is higher than Intel's and if they are selling for less, then their profit margin may be in the toilet.

IF this is because AMD is charging MORE per Chip and still outselling Intel, then that will be good for AMD.

JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK THE CHANCES ARE OF THIS last alternative?

Oh, well, all things will be revealed in the fullness of time.
