It is therefore of the first importance that we demarcate, clearly and immediately, the areas in which our government may or may not treat us as potential enemies.

It would be nice if Hitchens had laid out something specific about where he thinks the line should be drawn and why.

From what I've read by Hitchens, I despise him - but he's not a conservative (with large or small c). If anything, he's far-left, or was. Which makes him no less despicable.

The only, key exception is his support for the Iraq war; and some following sycophancy and support for Bush (IMO because of some halo effect, whereby he couldn't bear to think that the leader of his chosen cause could be so thoroughly misguided or wrong). Maybe that's now wearing off...
