"So, what do the Dems want?"

Needs are related to wants. They've needed to do some Spring cleaning for at least a decade. That is, clean out the obsolete dissembling rhetoric and get to a place of principle that permits real change and renewal in a constructive manner.

I don't think they are quite there yet. Kennedy's behavior in the recent Alito hearings confirms that.

However, the current tactic could be labeled a battle against political corruption. This was core to the recent speeches of both Hillary Clinton and Al Gore.

It has potential. Historically other political turn arounds have been based on this idea, like Andrew Jackson and Grover Cleveland.

If the lack of scruples obviously exemplified on this thread are any indication, however, the effort is doomed.

Part of the problem at this point is they have a hard time stating what they want in a clear and strategic manner. They are addicted to bashing, blaming, and disembling. Not much voters can do with that. Even if they vote 'against' repubs, they don't have a cause that they would be voting 'for'.
